Sony Ericsson is to launch the Xperia X10 in the UK a month before Vodafone, which had been slated to be the first to offer the phone to British buyers.

The Android-based smartphone is seen by many as a make-or-break mobile for Sony Ericsson, which has struggled over the last year in the face of financial losses and growing competition.

Vodafone's website has continued to list the X10 as 'coming soon', but suggests that an April launch is likely.

However, an insider at Sony Ericsson's online shop has allegedly told Mobile Today that the X10 will be ready to buy online on the 1st of March.

In addition, Sony Ericsson will only be the exclusive stockist of the X10 for seven days, after which point the X10 will become available via "other channels", said the source.

Stand-out features of the X10 include the same 1GHz processor that beats at the heart of the Google Nexus One and a high grade eight megapixel camera.
