Some 33 per cent of UK residents who went online with their mobile phones during December accessed their Facebook accounts, according to the Mobile Media Metrics service.

The data, which was gleaned by ComScore and the GSM Association, revealed that 6.7 billion web pages were accessed from mobile phones in December and that Facebook visits accounted for 2.16 billion of the total.

The data was based on over 16 million UK residents browsing on their smartphones, with this group chalking up over 4.8 billion minutes online between them.

Mobile Media Metrics' service is intended to help mobile advertising firms target their content and sell space to their clients with greater knowledge of consumer trends.

Mews of shifting usage patterns in the sector comes after 3 announced that its customers are being given free use of Twitter for the duration of February and March.

The ease of user participation and the speed of the interaction between users like myself has been totally amazing, especially as I am a new participant to Facebook.

The networking business side of Facebook has vast possibilities if the site is made even more business compliant.
