Nokia N900 to get Fennec browser imminently
Posted 6th January 2010 at 12:07pm by Matt Dixon
In the ongoing battle between Nokia and Apple the N900 is the latest weapon to attempt to hit back at the supremacy of the iPhone and with an advanced web browser soon to be released, the Finnish giants could regain even more lost ground.
The Fennec browser is the codename given to Mozilla's mobile version of its hugely popular Firefox browser program and amongst other things it looks set to take advantage of the advanced capabilities of the N900's Maemo operating system.
This will include the integration of Flash player, allowing for Flash content, such as videos and games, to be viewed from within the browser.
Other capabilities of Fennec have already been revealed and discussed, including the ability to bookmark your favourite websites in one touch, as well as being able to synchronise the mobile browser with the desktop version so that all of your current history and favourites can be transferred over.
Ideally Fennec will remain a unique selling point for the N900 for as long as possible, although versions for other mobile operating systems, such as Android, are going to arrive eventually.

The iPhones Browser (Safari) syncs with the desktop version! and it is one touch to add a bookmark!

microB only has flash 9.4 support which - while better than other mobile browsers - still isn't as good as the full flash plugins that are available with Fennec. If you wan't "desktop class browsing" then Fennec is the way to go.

firefox runs very slow on the N900. But what do you expect when you ask a mobile device to run add-ons as well as flash? I'm just gonna stick with the standard full web browser as who needs add-ons when you have a 4 desktops

@Itua I hate to burst your bubble, but I have been a Nokia sucker for over 15 years now, and every phone I have bought has failed to live up to the hype. Furthermore, some functions just didn't work, or took so much memory that the phone became useless if more than 2 apps were running continuously!

They have generally missed the boat with important improvements that were already mainstream on competitive models, either by them or by others, such as vibration, stereo sound, mapping, video players, etc... and if you wanted a firmware update you had to send the device back to the factory!
At least they seem to have built the N900 to withstand physical abuse. My second 9500 is falling apart physically, my first one having completely self-destructed!
My dream is that they wake up and finally give us a piece of equipment that has no flaws, and has all top-of-the-line features built-in, and added some breath-taking innovations that makes them the leader of the pack. Reading the many reviews of this device on the web over the last 3 months, I have to say that the impression I get is that I am not about to have my dream come true, yet again!
