An Irish network provider has hinted at the likelihood of an update to Android 2.1 arriving on the HTC Hero in March, after several setbacks have already pushed the release date further into the future.

Meteore.ie broke the news this week, suggesting that HTC is taking its time with the update and making sure that Android 2.1 works seamlessly with their own Sense user interface (UI) that the Hero currently sports.

HTC had intended to upgrade the Hero to 1.6 and then 2.0, but by March it looks as though lucky Hero owners will be able to skip over the interim versions and crack open Android 2.1 in full.

At first it looked as though HTC would be holding off the release of 2.1 for the Hero until later, but it got back to the network provider to say that 2.1 would indeed be arriving at some time before the end of March 2010.
