Google Android makes gains against iPhone

A new report by ComScore has revealed that as the number of people interested in Android-based mobiles increases, fewer people are expressing a desire for the iPhone.

It is the sheer number of Android-based smartphones coming to market that is generating interest and 2010 could well become Google's year if predictions come to pass.

The iPhone is still supported by a strong established user base and RIM's BlackBerry smartphones have the business market pretty much sewn up, but Android is gaining traction amongst consumers and developers are showing more interest in the platform.

Many expect that the buzz generated by the Google Nexus One smartphone, which some report will be available from early 2010, will positively impact all Android handsets. There is still confusion as to how HTC's involvement in the deal will be beneficial, as competition between its other Android mobiles and the Google branded handset, which it will produce, could see a reduction in its own market share.
