The LG Etna KS360 Android mobile phone has been renamed the LG GW620 and will be launched before the end of the year, it has been confirmed.

After months of speculation, photos of the first-ever LG phone to employ Google’s operating system were leaked online last week after being clandestinely sighted at an industry expo in Germany.

Now the South Korean mobile giant has officially unveiled the phone and has announced that the rebranded handset will go on sale in ‘selected European markets’ at some stage during the fourth quarter of 2009.

Features of the phone include a five megapixel camera, a touchscreen user interface and advanced social networking functions.

LG’s debut in the Android phone market comes after phones from rival manufacturers have racked up massive sales over the last ten months.

The T-Mobile G1 and the HTC Magic have both sold over a million units each worldwide, despite facing strong competition in the market for high-end smartphones from the likes of theiPhone 3G S and the Palm Pre.
