About Apple
Apple’s iPhones have become firm favourites with consumers thanks to their brilliant multi-touch screens and minimal hardware interface that has seen physical keyboards dispensed with altogether.
Running on a scaled-down version of Apple’s Mac OS X, the phones are laced with fantastic features including cameras, a media player which is as user-friendly and function-rich as an iPod and visual voicemail. Apple mobile phones also offer owners super fast 3G web browsing, push e-mail, so that users can read and receive their messages in real time and web-based Dashboard applications such as Google Maps and Weather.
As much as the functions, the phones have also scored for their brilliant looks, which echo the organic design aesthetic of Apple’s other cutting-edge products. Since the launch of the products in 2007, Apple handsets have garnered pages of glowing reviews as well as a panoply of awards. Perhaps the most prestigious of all however was the award of the Invention of the Year from the esteemed American news weekly Time.

History
Apple was founded in 1976 in Cupertino, California. In its 22-year life, the company has become known for producing beautifully designed, high-end devices, such as its Macintosh range of computers that won cult audiences across the globe and have inspired hitherto unseen levels of customer loyalty. However, with the launch of the iPod, it reached a wider demographic to the extent that the music players have gone onto revolutionise the way that music is consumed and listened to.
According to the company, the launch weekend saw Apple sell 270,000 iPhones in the first 30 hours of its release and by the fourth quarter of 2008, a total of 13 million iPhones had been sold around the world.
The company operates more than 200 retail stores in eight countries, as well as the iTunes music download site and an online store where hardware and software products are sold.
